By the age of eight he was taking guitar lessons from a Los Angeles teacher who offered to let him use her instrument. He recorded his first album at age 8, on cassette tape that was mastered into vinyl at age 13. He performed with symphony orchestras at age 11 and 14, played guitar on all of Frank Zappa's records (including his 1988 release, "Joe's Garage"), and played on more albums than any other guitarist in history (he has appeared on over 100 recordings).
